Ironhold Command

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

Ironhold Command asks you to build a fortress, manage resources, and send squads into the field — the classic strategy loop, tuned carefully for a small screen. The standout is the control layer: dragging troop formations feels precise rather than fiddly, which is where a lot of mobile strategy games fall apart.

Matches can be as short or long as you want. Skirmish mode gives you a tight twenty-minute scrap, while the campaign stretches across hours of slow expansion. I found myself planning defensive layouts on my commute and then executing them at night, which is exactly the kind of hook a strategy game should have.

It's not a light game — expect menus, upgrade trees, and some genuine thinking. But the payoff for that investment is real, and the AI opponents put up an honest fight.
