How we actually review a game at Vault Kit

July 11, 2026 · Marek Novák

People sometimes ask how long we play a game before writing about it. The honest answer is 'until we have something real to say,' which for most titles means several hours across a few days.

We deliberately let the novelty wear off. The first hour of almost anything is fun; the interesting question is whether hour five still holds up. That's where grind, repetition, and design shortcuts start to show.

Every editor takes their own notes and screenshots, and then we argue. If two of us disagree strongly about a game, that usually means it's genuinely divisive, and we say so in the review rather than pretending we have one clean verdict.

Scores are the last thing we decide, not the first. We write the impressions, then figure out what number honestly matches them. It's imperfect and subjective, and we'd rather be honest about that than fake objectivity.
